The X-Net has been extensively and independently tested and deployed by military, police and security forces around the world. DCA developed the portable Rapid Deployment Device (RDD) for QinetiQ to be used with their X-Net system.
It rapidly deploys a net in front of moving vehicles to bring them to a halt safely and under control. This fully mechanical deployment system operates by quickly discharging four coil springs, rotating a drum and drawing the net into position in seconds. The system is primed by rotating the handle, charging each of the springs. A magnetic safety-brake mechanism has been incorporated into the device to control the rate of cable retraction in the event that the net becomes disconnected, protecting the device and the operators from the large amount of stored energy.
