Working with Hitachi’s design and engineering teams in the UK and Japan, DCA helped develop a modular interior design for Abellio ScotRail’s Class 385 trains. This included cantilevered seating throughout and was based on a standard Hitachi construction system to minimise the lead time to production.
As part of the programme of work, in only 3 months, we designed and built a 9.3 metre long interior mock up, housed within a customised exhibition exterior. The mock up featured both 1st and Standard Class passenger saloons and went on public display at Waveley Station in Edinburgh, where it was unveiled by the then Scottish Government Minister for Transport and Islands, Derek Mackay, as a core element of ScotRail’s marketing campaign for the service.
DCA’s mock up was exhibited to the public in Edinburgh
