Fire extinguishers are used in stressful situations. It is paramount that users with no previous experience can immediately understand how to interact with the extinguisher to prime and deploy it.
The handles and levers of the FX extinguisher have been ergonomically designed to cater for the full range of hand sizes and strengths for the target user population. High performance glass-filled polymers and tactile over-moulding are used to reduce weight and create a contoured and textured form that distributes the load more evenly and provides a high grip surface to improve handling comfort and confidence. The handle assembly also includes a patented safety clip arrangement that comfortably accommodates both left or right handed users. The safety clip itself has been configured and positioned to actively discourage accidental activation.
FX extinguishers are 30% faster to prime and deploy than traditional designs
Before deploying the extinguisher, the user primes it by intuitively pulling out the large moulded safety clip. The action of withdrawing the safety clip shears the stem of the visible OK indicator disc away from the front face of the handle. Once the extinguisher has been activated, the resulting sheared OK indicator cannot be refitted. The area of the lever exposed when the OK indicator is removed is printed with the text ‘USED’, clearly warning users of the extinguisher’s non-operational status. The design of this safety clip mechanism also prevents other non-Chubb service providers from retrofitting alternative, potentially unsafe, status indicators. This ensures that the customers remain confidently protected in line with approved maintenance procedures.
