Animal Healthcare
From drug and vaccine delivery devices and specialist surgical equipment, through to electronic systems for tagging and monitoring livestock on farms and developing innovations in animal husbandry for a better environmental and sustainable future, we have a track record of addressing challenging areas and developing successful products for our clients.
Our knowledge and experience has been accumulated over many years work in medical, consumer, industrial and commercial product design. Our approach is focused on delivering robust and reliable products for our clients, that offer real commercial and user benefits.
Caring for the animals we share our world with
Whether used by pet owners or farmers, vets and other specialists that care for animals, diagnostic devices and treatment products need to perform efficiently and safely for both the user and the animal.
With a large multidisciplinary development team that includes specialist researchers, industrial designers, mechanical engineers, electronics engineers and software developers, we offer a proven product development capability for either discrete stages of design and analysis work, or a full turnkey service.
Zoonotic disease detection and prevention
Not just because we care for our animals, but also because of the potential crossover risks with human health, there is a focus on early detection and preventative measures, particularly for severe and disruptive diseases such as Rabies and Bird flu. The recent global pandemic has further highlighted the potential impact of transmission of highly infectious diseases between animals and humans.
Whether it be diagnostic devices, health tracking systems, vaccine delivery or disease treatments, we have a wealth of experience in supporting our clients to create products that can help provide robust solutions to protect animal and human health.

Digital technologies and information insights
Whether it’s GPS tracking to monitor animal herd movements, RFID tags to track and manage individual animals, or disease surveillance platforms to prevent outbreaks, the integration of digital technologies is transforming the management of the health of livestock.
Our expertise in UX/UI design, systems engineering, connected technologies and low-power embedded electronics as part of our multidisciplinary design and development service makes us an ideal partner for our clients in the field of digitally connected solutions for animal healthcare.
Tackling the challenges of sustainability in livestock husbandary
Innovating in animal husbandry for a better environmental and sustainable future is a challenge we need to address and requires care and creativity from many disciplines.
Attention is steadily turning to animal farming, seeking ways to reduce its impact on the environment. 1.6 billion cattle, each exhaling 400 litres of methane per day, are one of the single leading causes of global warming.
An example of our work in this area is supporting Zelp with the early development of their innovative wearable technology for cattle that measures, captures and oxidises methane released through the cattle’s nostrils and mouth (the primary source) thereby significantly reducing the greenhouse gas impact. This innovation was one of the four winners of HRH The Prince of Wales and Sir Jony Ive’s inaugural Terra Carta Design Lab Award in conjunction with the Royal College of Art, which recognises innovative design solutions to the climate crisis.
“All the Terra Carta Design Lab winners have ideas and designs that deserve to be developed,” said Ive. “The ingenuity and determination of these designers have produced some extraordinary creative responses, and they now embark on the journey to turn these great ideas into practical solutions.”
