Colour, Material, Finish (CMF)

Feel the difference

Colour, material and finish (CMF), is at the heart of our design offering. High-quality CMF can be the difference between good and great product design. Anything the user experiences when interacting with a physical product would benefit from the touch of a CMF designer.

CMF is knitted into our entire process. Our CMF designers are involved at the front end, creating inspiration, direction and strategy. Strategies built on an understanding of CMF trends, brand, technical process and importantly, people, and how they think. We consider how every surface and element will reflect the brand, enhance the user experience and meet commercial and environmental goals. It is vital to keep the CMF team involved in the design process from start to finish.

CMF is knitted into our entire process

We ground ourselves in the knowledge of materials and colour enabling us to specify materials that are achievable and appropriate. As a design is developed, CMF works in parallel with other disciplines, whether researching materials, finishes and colours, creating palettes either digitally or as a physical collection or acting as a bridge between design, engineering and manufacturing to deliver the vision.

The materials library at DCA is a dynamic one, it is a vital resource that the team are constantly curating, referencing and evolving. Our team visits design and category shows, conferences and exhibitions globally to keep our knowledge and library on the cutting edge. Each project brings new challenges and new materials. The library acts as a foundation and accelerator to allow new CMF projects to be as efficient as possible.
